French-Style Sliding Patio Doors

Rated 5 out of 5 by DIANNE64 beautiful and easy to use The best function of my new patio door is that I can open/close and lock it with one hand. One easy motion. the only down fall for me is that they are so beautiful I have now added one more weekly item to clean due to my dogs nose smudges. My old doors were so old and ugly that I didn't care if they were dirty. I also had windows installed at the same time. One easy motion as well. My shades were always closed with the old windows. Now I open the shades just to see the windows and the great view my property has. Thank you Milgard for such a great product. January 21, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by MandM Solid built Solid built and came right to size specifications. Was easy to install and looks great. I can already tell a huge difference from the old door with cold and sound coming thru. Will buy more products from Milgard in the future. January 15, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by GLeaf Transformative A year ago we moved into and began updating our 1959 rambler. We bought it as our last empty-nester. One side of our house is bounded by a very busy street and the old aluminum-frame sliders allowed noise and cold/heat to make themselves a part of the family. Two days and two sliders later and the sound quality of our lives has been transformed. The clean sytle is very pleasing. We're just getting started and we plan to use this Milgard style for the rest of our home. November 4, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by LJMP Worth the Money We did a great deal of research and chose these doors because we preferred the fiberglass on the outside and the lifetime warranty. We live in Los Angeles, and also liked that the product is made locally. It's a big expense, but one I expect to last 20+ years! June 30, 2015

Rated 4 out of 5 by Steph2011 good quality good price So far so good. Installed a sliding door in a garage door opening. Eight foot wide, we chose a wider door so the molding would fit reasonably in the nine foot opening, and I like the wider opening for accessibility. The six foot only opens to 28 inches. The eight foot opens to fit a walker or wheel chair easily, if needed. The locking handle is OK. You have to do it in one full motion, Shut and push handle to lock. You can't lock it later without reopening it . Not sure why, it just seems to be part of the connecting motion. June 10, 2015

    • I just replaced two exterior windows with French Doors - you need to be sure you get EXTERIOR doors - the indoor versions are not insulated and sealed to be an outer door. I got mine at a major national home improvement store -and they were about $300.

Another place to check is recycled house parts warehouses - don't know if there are any in your area, but basically they go to homes - old and new - that are being torn down, and salvage all the useable pieces and parts -windows, doors, mantles, woodwork, things like that. You might get lucky.

I LOVE my french doors - hope you find something!

    • french door- with no panes. Then you can open both doors at the same time. With a slider, you only can open one side. I have the sliders, and would prefer both doors to open.
